08/16/2012  Judge Sets Bond for Smoot

07/02/2012  Arraignment Date Set for Smoot

A number of media outlets have been calling regarding Shawn Smoot. Smoot has been in the Roane County jail since Friday afternoon (June 29).  He was transported from Mississippi after waiving extradition.  He remains there under condition of no bond.  Judge E. Eugene Eblen has set his arraignment for Monday, July 9, 2012 at 9:00 am at the Roane County Courthouse.  Our office has not received any notice of appearance from any private attorney indicating representation of Smoot.  Obviously, Smoot may petition the court to appoint a public defender at his arraignment.  It will be up to Judge Eblen to determine whether Smoot will receive a public defender or must hire his own attorney.  Smoot may also petition the court to set a bond in this case and it will also be up to Judge Eblen to what amount of bond, if any, will be set.
